Project Description
Streetscape Improvements – Nicholasville, Kentucky
Magna provided electrical engineering services for this streetscape improvements project. The project includes new streetlighting in accordance with KDOT requirements. The design utilizes “dark sky” compliant fixtures which minimize lighting pollution, while providing efficient lighting distribution on streets and sidewalks. The lighting design was modeled in Visual® software.
While most of the existing utilities on Main Street were already underground, extensive overhead electric and communications installations crossed at each intersection. The project included provisions for relocation of overhead utilities to underground at the intersections, including ductbanks, pullboxes, and riser poles. Riser poles for electrical primary were required to be steel, self supporting, as space constraints prevented guying of the new riser poles. Provisions were made for replacing overhead electrical and communication services with underground along the route as well.
Magna staff also assisted the City of Nicholasville with coordination to provide Wi-Fi service throughout the downtown area.
