Project Description

Owensboro Downtown Development Infrastructure Phases II and III Owensboro, Kentucky

Magna provided electrical engineering services for this streetscape development project. The project construction limits are stretched for eight (8) blocks in a width of one (1) block.

Total of six (6) service panels were utilized for for new loads. The project included new tree grate receptacles for over one hundred trees throughout the construction limits. The receptacles were specifically designed for waterproof/weatherproof application. Each receptacle is protected with an individual overcurrect protection device. Branch circuits were designed as required to minimize voltage drop.

In addition, the design included lighting for Convention Center parking lot area, lighting walkways using bollards and lighting poles, niche and landscaping lights. All lighting was designed to be fed from different service panels and controlled with a single photocell per section via lighting contactors. The design utilizes “dark sky” compliant fixtures which minimize lighting pollution, while providing efficient lighting distribution on streets and sidewalks. The lighting design was modeled in Visual® software to maximize lighting performance using less quantity of fixtures.

The project included a thorough coordination with utilities, consultants, and contractors. The project is divided and subdivided into fifteen (15) construction phases, eight (8) of which are major construction phases. The electrical scope was designed in a specific construction sequence, making provisions for the following phase.
