Project Description

Mellwood Pump Station – Louisville, Kentucky

Magna Engineers provided electrical, mechanical and instrumentation services for this new pump station for the Louisville-Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District.

The pump station consists of a split wetwell and a total of four pumps. The wetwells are connected via motor operated gates which are interlocked with the pump controls. Redundant submersible pressure transducers provide continuous level monitoring and control of the pumps.

The pump station includes a new standby natural gas generator, new PLC based controls, and provisions for owner-installed telemetry equipment. As the pump station is located in a 100 year floodplain, the control and generator rooms are located on the second level of the building.

As the pump station is in a residential area, the exterior lighting was carefully designed, and includes LED, dark sky compliant fixtures.
