Project Description

Generator Addition at Lebanon Water Treatment Plant – Lebanon, Kentucky

The project included the addition of a 550 KW standby diesel generator with subbase fuel tank and weather enclosure at the existing water treatment plant elevated above flood zone on concrete pedestal.

The existing plant is served by two separate electrical services from independent transformers. One service is overhead from the pole mounted 3-phase transformer to one of two high service pump stations, which also feeds the main part of the water treatment plant. The second service is underground from pad mount transformer to the second high service pump station. This service feeds only that pump station and associated building loads within. Under normal conditions both sources serve the entire plant load.

It was decided that powering only the original high service pump station and water treatment plant would be adequate and provide the best redundancy for pumping. Therefore, the new standby generator was added as a backup source to the original high service pump station. The new generator is designed to operate the entire water treatment plant and one of the original high service pumps. The new generator will be energized and transferred manually upon the loss of utility service. Manual transfer switch provides an alarm during loss of power through existing SCADA system.

The project was carefully designed such that there was minimal downtime of the plant during construction.
